Below is some useful information you need to consider before donating blood.
- Collected blood expires
between 35 to 42 days, hence the reason of appealing to people to donate blood.
- Usually a man can donate
blood after three months, while a woman can do so after every four months.
- All donated blood is
screened for HIV, Hepatitis B, C and syphilis, and those infected are usually
informed and referred for care and treatment.
- Those people who have had their bodies tattooed recently, those who underwent major surgery, lactating mothers, hypertension patients or people on medication are ineligible to donate blood.
